  1. Pick up a graduation packet from the graduate school. (More information on picking up packets)
  2. Turn in application documents to the graduate school early in the semester. (Check the Academic Calendar for this deadline: Spring 2008, Summer 2008)

    2. Copy of approved degree plan from your department
    3. UNT Graduating Student Survey
    4. Copy of receipt showing all assessed fees paid
    5. ProQuest Agreement (only for students submitting dissertations or theses)

    6. Survey of Earned Doctorates. You can complete the survey by filling out a PDF form and sending it in, or you do the survey online. 
      1. Complete the survey with PDF copy. This PDF is one that you can fill in on your computer, then print and send in.
      2. Complete the survey online. You'll need to visit the Survey of Earned Doctorates site and fill out an initial online form. Thereafter, you will receive an email with a PIN and password, with which you can fill in the actual survey at https://survey.norc.org/sed2007.
  3. Turn in your dissertation/thesis documents in the Filing Envelope by the deadline. (Check the Academic Calendar for this deadline: Spring 2007, Summer 2007, or Fall 2007)

    2. Important notes:
      1. Appeals to temporarily restrict the UNT copy of the thesis or dissertation must be made by major professor on behalf of the student, to the Grad School Dean.
      2. UNT and/or the Grad School no longer accepts payment for any optional ProQuest service. See also our UNT - ProQuest Comparison.
    3. Check the Submission Instruction Sheet you find in your packet. If you lose your Submission Instructions (also available at our Graduation Process: Forms page):

    6. Paper copy of your dissertation/thesis including your abstract
    7. One floppy disk or CD with:
      1. PDF copy of your dissertation/thesis (one file), formatted and with elements as required
      2. PDF copy of your abstract (one file), formatted and with elements as required
      3. Word processor copy of abstract (one file), formatted and with elements as required
    8. This listing presents brief information. If you are writing your thesis or dissertation, you should download and print a copy of the complete Thesis and Dissertation Manual.
    9. Please keep in mind that you may make no further changes to your dissertation or thesis once it is submitted!
  4. After you submit your dissertation/thesis, the Graduate Reader will examine your work and e-mail you about any necessary revisions.
  5. Turn in final revisions (if any) of your dissertation/ thesis by the revisions deadline. (Check the Academic Calendar for this deadline: Spring 2008, Summer 2008.)
  6. Doctoral students must submit the Survey of Earned Doctorates. (After you register, you will receive an email with your PIN and password; with PIN and password, you can complete the survey at https://survey.norc.org/sed2007.)
  7. Final steps towards graduation. We'll take care of various final steps in the process, but the speed of that process depends in good measure on the quality and correctness of the information you provide to us. Read here for an overview of these final steps.
  8. Final Distribution of Electronic Theses and Dissertations (ETDs). We distribute your ETD to the UNT Library and ProQuest. Click here for more information on this step.
