The Graduate School offers several awards to help fund your education.
UNT’s Competitive Master’s and Doctoral Fellowship (MDF) Award
These prestigious awards of up to $25,000 are offered to top students from around the globe. The MDF provides a multi-year funding package that includes tuition and fees plus a monthly stipend comparable to what other research universities provide to students in your field of study.
Individual program faculty members nominate new master’s and doctoral students who have demonstrated academic excellence as well as potential for achievement in future research or creative activity. Recipients are mentored, and their progress is evaluated annually in order to qualify for the continuation of these elite awards. Learn more about this award.
UNT Thesis/Dissertation Award (TDA)
Master’s or doctoral candidates who are in the last year of thesis or dissertation research and writing are eligible to be considered for this award. Program faculty members nominate the master’s or doctoral candidates. This distinguished award also provides tuition and fees plus a monthly stipend competitive in your academic field. Academic Achievement Scholarship (AAS)
The scholarships are available to many new doctoral and Master of Fine Arts students for the first year of study with a possible one year renewal. The recipients are awarded $1,000 and are eligible for in-state tuition rates.
To remain eligible, you must complete and pass a minimum of 15 credit hours within your first two semesters. A minimum of 6 of the 15 credit hours must be taken in the first semester the scholarship is awarded. The graduate school determines the eligibility of this award; no application is necessary. Graduate Tuition Surcharge Grants
The grants are provided to full-time graduate students who work at least 10 hours per week in a fellowship or assistantship position. This grant covers the difference in tuition for enrollment in graduate courses above the cost of enrollment in undergraduate courses and may reduce tuition costs by as much as $1,200 annually. These funds are automatically awarded to qualified students. No application is necessary. By itself, this grant does not qualify you for in-state tuition rates.
The McNairs Scholars Fellowship
Students who graduate from a McNair Scholar program are eligible for this fellowship. These awards provide up to four consecutive semesters of support ($12,667 total) for full-time enrollment, as long as you remain in good academic standing and make satisfactory progress in your degree program. Graduate Student Travel Grants
Students in good standing who are currently enrolled in master’s or doctoral degree programs may apply for these grants to support the costs of their travel to professional meetings during the 2009-2010 academic year. The grants are offered by the Toulouse School of Graduate Studies, the Vice President for Research and Technology Transfer, and the Graduate Student Council.
